(This will probably be moved to scraps eventually, and I edited it slightly in photoshop to get rid of the graininess of the scan.)
Just something I did to get rid of the "must draw" urge that was threatening to take over. I wanted there to be a story, fun detail--namely hair--and something I hadn't really done before--in this case, the hand. I don't do hands well, as this illustrates, though if you don't look too closely, the anatomical errors are forgivable. Really, I just wanted the mood.
This is Claire, probably shortly after this scene in her life:[link] . A very emotional, traumatic experience, after which she never really feels human again. Set apart. Ashamed of that, she tried to hide in many ways for a long time.
P.S.-If you fave this, please leave a comment saying why. It won't take but a moment, and I greatly appreciate the feedback! Thank you! ^_^
EDIT: I worked a bit on the actual image, darkening the lines and smoothing out the shading a bit; I like this version much better.
i like your use of contrast. i used to have lots of trouble getting dark with pencils, preferring to stay safe with light shades, so i appreciate a good contrast. the only thing i might recommend is getting your facial features all aligned prior to putting anything in front(including hair) since it can sometimes throw off your alignment or proportions. I also want to say i like your (closer to traditional)drawing style.
Contrast has been one of my battles--mid tones are safe, non?
Funnily enough, this is the one time I actually sketched out the whole face before putting anything in front. Only after did I realize I shifted her eyes when making the lines darker. Ah well. Not bad for something that took me maybe an hour.
Thanks I was playing with an almost negative space thing, really only shading the skin and areas I wanted to emphasize. I don't typically go for the minimalist look, but hey--this works.

Thank you for the lovely comment!
